Research Proposal

PSYC FPX 4600 Assessment 2 – Ethnicity has a significant effect on people’s lives, molding their habits, customs, and perspectives. According to research, children’s cultural backgrounds commonly result in significant behavioral differences. For example, Wang, (2022) discovered that ethnicity influences students’ academic performance. The hypothesis for this study is that “students’ grades are significantly influenced by their ethnic background.” In this approach, students. ethnicity is regarded as the independent variable, with academic grades serving as the dependent variable. Furthermore, control factors such as students’ status in society, financial conditions, and the quality of education given by schools will be investigated to better understand their possible influence on their academic performance.

Sampling

A random sampling method will be used in this study to ensure that participants are selected in a representative manner. Excel will be used because of its user-friendly features, which enable efficient data selection from an archived dataset (Noor et al., 2022). The sample for this study will be taken from the SPSS dataset supplied in the instructions, ensuring that the data represents a varied variety of ethnic origins for a thorough examination of the impact of ethnicity on academic performance.

Measures

In this study, we will use self-reported survey responses to measure GPA scores for both genders. This methodology combines quantitative and qualitative research methods, allowing participants to directly submit data on factors of interest. Large random samples will be emphasized to ensure that the findings are representative of the population, as random sampling is an essential component of psychological research.

Surveys can be done using a variety of methods, such as in-person interviews, phone calls, mail, or internet platforms. The survey could cover academic experiences, attitudes, and habits, all of which could contain valuable information. While most survey data will be processed statistically, some qualitative analysis can be used to capture complex replies. According to Ponto, (2019), non-experimental survey research is the most popular type of survey methodology.

Correlational research will help with the collection and management of quantitative data in this study. To examine the correlation between the dependent and independent variables, I will use single-factor ANOVA (Analysis of Variance). This statistical approach is especially useful for investigating the influence of a single independent variable on the dependent variable, as it allows for the evaluation of hypotheses and the possibility of generalization based on a small sample population (Lau, 2019). I use single-factor ANOVA to see whether there are any significant differences between the groups depending on their ethnic origins and GPA levels.

Procedure

I will use the survey approach to acquire quantitative data for this study. Surveys will be distributed via Google Forms, including multiple-choice questionnaires. I will be able to quantify the data, put it into tables, and conduct statistical analyses more efficiently by using closed-ended questions.

Volunteer students from minority ethnic backgrounds will participate in the study, as will volunteer teachers. To ensure consistency, control factors such as social position, financial situation, and educational quality will be tracked (Meyer & Rameder, 2021).

The questionnaire will ask participating students to first identify their ethnicity, then choose their grades in several disciplines. Teachers will also fill out a second form to offer information on the grades that ethnic minority pupils normally obtain in comparison to their counterparts. The data obtained will subsequently be thoroughly analyzed.

Using methods that make it easier to acquire and analyze quantitative data is critical, as quantitative data gives numerical measurements and exposes direct relationships between variables (Kotronoulas et al., 2023).

The data collected from the surveys will be gathered and structured using Microsoft Excel. I will use single-factor ANOVA to examine the data because Excel can execute a variety of statistical procedures, including this analysis of structured quantified data. The data will be analyzed to see if there is a significant association between the independent variable (ethnicity) and the dependent variable (grades) (Dawit Dibekulu, 2020).

Conclusion

This research proposal aims to investigate the significant impact of ethnicity on the academic performance of students by looking at the correlation between ethnic background and grades. The study’s rigorous approach, which involves random sampling and the analysis of self-reported survey data,
